May Events in Ward 23 Scarborough North

Dear Friends and Neighbours,

May is here, and with it comes some of my favourite events of the year. The ones that get us outside, connect us to our environment, and remind us just how much we can do when we show up for our community.

This month, I'm excited to bring two green initiatives right to your neighbourhood. Whether you're looking to declutter responsibly, pick up some free compost for your garden, or simply come out and say hello, there's something for everyone.

Please note: Community Environment Day runs rain or shine. Compost Days will be cancelled if there is rain.

Here's what's happening in our community this May:

Community Environment Day

Sunday, May 3

10 am – 2 pm

Woodside Square Parking Lot, 1571 Sandhurst Circle

Come drop off items for reuse, recycling, and safe disposal — including electronics and household hazardous waste. You can also pick up free leaf compost (limit of 2 bags per household) and purchase kitchen organics containers for just $7 each (cash, debit, and credit accepted).

For a full list of accepted items, visit toronto.ca/environment_days

Community Compost Days

I'll be out at four locations across the ward this month, giving away free compost! Come meet me and grab your compost. Please bring your own containers and helpers for loading. There is a limit of two (2) containers per household, while quantities last. Please note that staff are unable to assist with loading. All dates are 9 am – 12 pm or until supplies run out.

2026 Garden Awards — Nominations Open

Scarborough North is full of passionate gardeners whose hard work brings beauty and pride to our neighbourhoods.

As I visit different parts of the ward, I'll be surprising residents with Garden Awards to celebrate the gardens that brighten our streets.

Know a garden that deserves recognition? Whether it's your own or a neighbour's, I'd love to hear about it. Contact my office if you need help submitting a nomination.

I hope to see you out there this month. These events are a great reminder that small actions — composting, recycling, showing up — add up to something bigger for our community and our planet.
